Volto Já

This album, "Volto já" ("I'll be right back"), is an invitation to discover and learn about some of the traditional Portuguese repertoire.

As in any country and tradition, in Portugal too, dance and celebration are an integral part of community life, in many cases playing a unifying role and of great importance to the well-being and physical and mental health of its members. Furthermore, celebration and dance are among the few truly ancestral traditions that survive to this day without major historical obstacles, which favors the repertoire in terms of its preservation, updating, and dissemination. Moreover, if we think about it, music and dance or music and movement are artistic expressions that always go hand in hand, that not only complement each other but are, in essence, the same thing: rhythm, articulation, phrase, character, pulse, structure, breath, impulse/rest, etc.

For us, the great challenge in using the traditional repertoire for dance was the lack of flexibility in the structures and pulse, since the music is either associated with a choreography or must function as a good aid in the execution of the commands of a leader. Thus, excluding the possibility of altering structures or making rhythmic oscillations, we focused the elaboration of the arrangements on the character, texture, different voices and timbres and, of course, on the interpretation and creativity of the excellent musicians who recorded with us.

We hope you have fun listening to us and dancing with us, or at least feel the "biological" impulse to tap your foot!
