Vai-te Cuca

Our proposal for this “Vai-te Cuca”, our second album, is linked to the pedagogical project we have been developing over the past year, namely through the creation of the Cardo-Amarelo School of Traditional Portuguese Music and the artistic and educational work carried out with the communities of some Portuguese villages. During this process, we were able to confirm the existence of a profound lack of confidence and disinterest in the knowledge of traditional cultural heritage, which, in our perspective, is reflected in many crucial aspects of our existence as a people, as a cultural and even moral identity.

As parents, educators and teachers, we know how fundamental the impact of a solid, rich and full of possibilities education is, that stimulates our children to become cultured and intelligent human beings; we also know that a large part of this education depends on the children's immediate family.

In this sense, and admitting that it is not always easy to have time or be creative in offering resources to the youngest, we believe in the importance of encouraging the creation of new activities to do as a family, strengthening bonds and complicity, reminding parents and grandparents that there is an entire cultural heritage that can and should be shared. It will always be an advantage to have, in the future, adults who know and are proud of their cultural identity.

Thus, we chose for this album musical collections with simple texts accessible to the understanding of audiences of any age (not all originally for children and avoiding the perpetuation of some prejudices present in our songbook), on which we built arrangements that intensify their differences and that result in songs that are attractive to the whole family.

We hope, therefore, that this album will contribute to brightening your daily life, that it will foster a more frequent musical practice and that it will awaken the desire to learn more about traditional Portuguese culture.
