Our proposal for this “Vai-te Cuca”, our second album, is related to the pedagogical project that we have been developing over the last year, namely through the creation of the Cardo-Amarelo Portuguese Traditional Music School and the artistic work and educational project developed with the communities of some Portuguese villages. During this process, we were able to confirm the existence of a profound lack of trust and lack of interest in knowledge of the traditional cultural heritage, which, in our perspective, is reflected in many crucial aspects of our existence as a people, as a cultural and even moral identity.
As parents, educators and teachers, we know how fundamental is the repercussion of a solid, rich and full of possibilities education that encourages our children to become cultured and intelligent human beings; we also know that much of this education depends on the children's close family. In this sense, and admitting that it is not always easy to have time or be creative in offering resources to the youngest, we believe in the importance of encouraging the creation of new activities to do as a family, strengthening bonds and complicity, reminding parents and grandparents that there is a whole cultural heritage that can and should be shared. It will always be an asset to have, in the future, adults who are knowledgeable and proud of their cultural identity.
Thus, for this disc we chose musical collections with simple texts accessible to the understanding of audiences of any age (not all originally for children and avoiding the perpetuation of some prejudices present in our songbook), on which we built arrangements that intensify their differences and that result in songs that are appealing to the whole family.
We hope, therefore, that this disc will contribute to brighten up your daily life, that it will encourage a more frequent musical practice and that it will awaken the desire to get to know more about traditional Portuguese culture.
